WHY BE BAPTIST

SO WHO ARE THE SOUTHERN BAPTISTS

What is Woodland About....

Those who claim Woodland Baptist Church as their church home, proclaim Jesus Christ, God Incarnate, anticipated by the prophets of old.

We believe Christ was born, died on the cross for the forgiveness of sin, and was raised from the dead, offering to the world the unmerited gift of life eternal. We are nurtured by a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, our living Lord, and we invite others to enter into that same
relationship.

As Christians who call ourselves Baptists, we affirm the notions of the priesthood of the believer (all are competent and responsible before God, needing no human "go-between" to administer our faith journey), and the autonomy of the local church (we answer to no hierarchical governing body, but freely choose to cooperate with sister churches at the local, state, national, and international level). We welcome all who desire to live in Christ and serve in His name.

BAPTIST HISTORY IN VIRGINIA

Woodland's History ....a look back at 97 years

WBC opened its doors in late Winter 1911 with several horse and buggies hitched out front of the church. Woodland was officially dedicated on June 30, 1912. Between 1925 and 1936, Church enrollment grew to 136 members. Much growth occurred in the county from 1934 to 1952, especially with construction of a new highway (known as Rt. 29). Good news continued as the Parsonage was paid in full January 1967, and membership continued to grow.

In 1998, The Woodland Early Life Learning Center was established, and today serves as a child-care ministry for pre-school students. Present enrollment stands at 44 with a paid staff of eight.

A 10,000+ square foot addition, containing 8 classrooms and a fellowship hall, was dedicated in September 2001.

Today, Woodland Baptist continues to grow. Sunday School attendance averages 100 each Sunday, with the Worship Service attendance at 125 people.
